Chief Innovation Officer, CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizen Participation
In my current role, I have spent most of my time thinking about, tinkering with, and often failing at figuring out how human beings can have a louder, more effective, more powerful voice in what happens to their lives and in their communities. I do this by working with talented and dedicated colleagues, geeking out on technology and data, and using basic political organising principles to co-create bigger impact of our work.
In the 20 years of doing this work—most of it as a political organiser and advocate for human rights–I’ve experienced great joy, deep disappointment, but never any indifference. And the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to never ask for permission when what’s at stake is ensuring human dignity.
